AGM November 2020
As the annual Advent Sunday Lunch and the Association’s AGM could not take place in 2020, the AGM was transferred to Zoom, which enabled people from around the country to attend the meeting from the comfort of their own homes. The Dean took the chair.
The meeting was enhanced with excellent and informative talks on the how the choir has been operating in 2020 and how Cathedral has been challenged during the pandemic. These were led by James Bowstead and Leah Vasey-Saunders respectively. Leah then went on to explain that all choristers who leave the choir now sign up to allow their details to be passed to the Association unless they specifically request not to do so. This is a positive move for the Association making it easier to keep in contact with young OCs.
Paul Fincham’s Advent Carol 2021
When the Association commissioned Paul to compose an Advent carol, it was hoped it would have its first performance at the 2020 Advent Carol Service.
Hopefully, it will now be sung at the 2022 Advent Carol Service, which will take place on Sunday, 27th November.
The Association sends out newsletters in January and September each year. Wakefield Cathedral Old Choristers who are not on the mailing list and wish to receive newsletters and other information about the Association should email firstname.lastname@example.org
As already mentioned, we cannot hold our Annual Dinner on Friday, 7th May. Having looked for a date for later in the year in the hope that the pandemic eases and allows events to take place, it is impossible to find one that would be suitable for both the Choir and the Cathedral.
However, we have a provisional date for 2022, which is Friday, 6th May. We hope Chris Lewis, the Head of Music at QEGS, who was to have been our guest speaker this year (he was first asked to speak in 2020!), will agree to speak. It is also hoped that “Close Shave”, the school’s excellent barbershop group, will provide entertainment during the evening.
Cathedral Piano Recital by Marc Corbett-Weaver
Sadly, Marc’s piano recital had to be postponed in May, 2020. Arrangements for a new date will be made when the situation changes.
